Buganda Kingdom has today (13th May 2018), commemorated the Buganda Women’s Day at Kasangati in Kyaddondo County.

Buganda’s Minister for Women, gender and Community service, Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, led Kabaka’s subjects, diplomatic corps, Kabaka’s chiefs and several dignitaries to mark celebrations at the headquarters of Kyaddondo County in Kasangati.

The line-up of pre-event activities included; visiting the most improved homes that possess the necessities agood home should have, such as, a clean toilet, nursery bed, projects that bring in money at home as well as sanitation environment.

Nnabagereka Sylivia Nagginda paid a courtesy visit to these homes of two namely; Margaret Magembe Nakagiri and Margaret Kalungi both of Kira municipality. She commended their efforts and urged other women to copy from them so as to lift the life style of their homes without waiting for their husbands.

This year’s theme was “Respecting Women is the foundation of development”. It provides the people of Buganda to accord respect to women as this could trigger development in homes and society as a whole.

Minister Mariam Mayanja said they now look forward to start up a bank founded on the basis of women in order to provide opportunities to the women fraternity in Buganda.

Nnabagereka Sylivia Nagginda called on Men to play an advisory role to their wives as this will help to control on increased indecency of dressing by women. She said, if Men come up and show no support to women who wear short dresses, the mind set of Women will change as they think that whatever they wear is meant to induce or influence Men to go for them.

The speaker of Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko, Owekitiibwa Nelson Kawalya, urged Nnabagereka to introduce seminaries and workshop to educate Men how they should Women and the family issues in general.

All the 18 Counties of Buganda were represented by a mass turn up.
