The 2019 edition of Buganda Masaza royal regatta race has been launched by the Prime minister of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga.

 

The well attended launch took place at Kiyindi landing site, in Buikwe district Kyaggwe County.

Katikkiro Mayiga said that Kabaka Kintu once used the navy force during his days, and this makes the race very historical for the Kingdom of Buganda. He added, the Kabaka used to travel to Tanzania via water transport and with such a background,it gives the game a staunch foundation.

Mr. Mayiga however urged the people of Buikwe to abstain from activities that lead them to attract HIV /AIDS. He reminded them of the responsibility they hold in the development of the country as this requires people of good health and free from such infections.

The Chairperson of the organizing committee, Engineer Ben Misagga showed how the game is profitable and other states like in Spain, they earn a lot of revenue from the boat race and this can also be achieved here in Uganda via the Buganda Royal race regatta.

Today’s competition was challenged by 9 Counties with Bulemeezi emerging winners and qualifies to finals scheduled on 8th June at Nabugabo sand beach in Masaka, Buddu County and will be commissioned by His Majesty King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The launch was also attended by Henry Kiberu Sekabembe, the Kingdom sports minister, Masaza chiefs, Kingdom officials, team managers, riders, and the media.
