The Kingdom of Buganda is situated in the Central region of the country known today as Uganda. It is right in the heart of Africa astride the Equator and in the North West shores of Lake Victoria and it's also the source of the great river Nile. Buganda Kingdom is the home to the nation's political and commercial capital city Kampala as well as the country's main International airport Entebbe.

The Kingdom's equatorial climate provides plentiful sunshine which is moderated by relatively high altitude. Since it's near Lake Victoria, it's mean annual temperature ranges from 16 degrees 25 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperature averages between 8 degrees to 10 degrees Celsius warmer than night temperatures. Rainfall is evenly distributed around the area and the mean annual rainfall often exceeds 2100 millimeters. Buganda Kingdom has officially handed over sickel cell screening kits to ministry of health worth two hundred million shillings as part of the remunerations from Kabaka birthday run held in April this year.

1st deputy Katikkiro and minister in charge of innovation and technology, Prof Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase handed the kits to the minister of health Jane Ruth Acheng on behalf of the Kingdom.

Owek Kaawaase said that Kabaka is on the mission of improving the lives of his people and such diseases should be confroted with a sharp weapon so that they cannot deter the missions and development strategies of the Kingdom.

Minister of health Jane Ruth Acheng, appreciated Buganda Kingdom for spearheading the mission to fight against sickle cell disease and this has eased their work as implementors of health related issues. He said of all Kingdoms in Uganda, only Buganda has come on board to join the fight against non communicable diseases.

This year's Kabaka Birthday run collected 494 million shilling and over fifty thousand runners participated. According to wikipeadia, Kabaka birthday run is ranked 19th in the world, and 2nd in Africa among the marathons with a noble cause.
